Darren Shan's Cirque du Freak book series for young readers takes a bite out of the screen with this adaptation from writer-director Paul Weitz (ABOUT A BOY). When 16-year-old Darren (Chris Massoglia) attends a circus sideshow, he gets far more than just a few hours of gaping at the strange performers. Vampire Larten Crepsley (John C. Reilly) makes Darren into one of his own, and the teen soon joins the tour, traveling along with the bearded lady (Salma Hayek) and the barker (Ken Watanabe) as he's drawn into a war between the supernatural creatures.

What is the price that America pays for its love of capitalism? Years ago, that love seemed so innocent. Today, however, the American dream is looking more like a nightmare as families pay the price with their jobs, their homes and their savings. Michael Moore takes us into the homes of ordinary people whose lives have been turned upside down; and he goes looking for explanations in Washington, DC and elsewhere. What he finds are the all-too-familiar symptoms of a love affair gone astray: lies, abuse, betrayal¿and 14,000 jobs being lost every day.

Early twentysomething writer/director Antonio Campos makes a startlingly assured directorial debut with AFTERSCHOOL. Set in an exclusive Northeastern prep school, the film follows Robert (Ezra Miller), a confused youngster who spends most of his time watching videos on the Internet. Some of these are harmless, but some are much more troubling, including pornography and actual fights that have been captured on various consumer-grade video cameras.

Harry Potter has not had a good summer. Not only has he had to put up with his overbearing Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon Dursley and their dread of his magical abilities, but it seems as if Harry's best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger have forgotten him as they haven't replied to a single one of his letters. Then, suddenly and mysteriously, house-elf Dobby appears in Harry's bedroom and warns him of great danger if he should attempt to return to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
